Description
My Bespoke Porcelain Vases show the transitional qualities of leaves as they change with the seasons and time. Each of my Bespoke Porcelain Vases are unique, one-off pieces, inspired by my love of nature and oriental painting techniques. I combine these techniques to create beautiful pieces of functional ceramic art for your home.
Making Process
Firstly, I throw with porcelain and stoneware clays on the Potter’s Wheel to create an organic spiralling vase form. I then use real leaves to make impressions in the clay, adding texture to harmonise with the form. Finally, layers of oxide, glaze and beautiful lustres enhance the form in decorative oriental patterns. These patterns help to create the illusion of leaves and flowers transitioning from bud to decay. I often apply the lustres using a Japanese brush forming decorative flower and leaf patterns.
I use porcelain and stoneware clays to make each piece, firing to 1020 bisque initially, then 1260+ to mature the porcelain and glazes. The third firing allows platinum and gold lustre to mature on the surface design.
