My Porcelain Hanging Planters with an Embossed Finish, are perfect for housing your air plants or your favourite orchids, succulents and cacti. They make perfect additions to any modern home or plant lover’s abode. They are both minimalist and stylish, capturing peoples attention because they are so distinctive and help create the impression of ‘suspended time’, peace and tranquility.
Firstly, I roll lace into fine porcelain before folding it into an organic free form shape. When the planter is air dry, I bisque fire it to 1020 degrees. Then I use oxide washes to enhance the embossed surface. Finally covering the planter with a clear glaze and firing it to 1260 degrees in the kiln. This makes the planter completely water tight and durable.
I make my Porcelain Hanging Planters with an Embossed Finish in two sizes. Small hanging planters are similar to the size of a grapefruit. Medium hanging planters are similar to the size of a small melon. However sizes do vary by 1-2 cm depending on the unique form when it is produced.
The colour, texture and finish are all consistent with the images above. The thickness, however, is variable because it is reliant on how the porcelain folds. Therefore some areas will be double thickness and other areas thinner, making the porcelain beautifully transparent if hung in front a window or light source.
They are available in four subtle colour finishes – ivory, green, taupe and pink.
Each piece has a hemp cord or rope attached to it so you can suspend them from window handles, picture hooks, ceiling hooks or plant stands.
They are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Please be aware however, that the rope may need replacing with outdoor use over time. There are also no drainage holes in the base of the porcelain form so therefore consider which plants you select to go inside.
Each hanging planter is fired to 1260 degrees, so surprisingly robust. However, I do recommend taking care when washing the planter. Ideally use a soft brush to clean out the inside with warm soapy water and where possible avoid using a dishwasher.
Air Plant Care
Air plants like to be housed in an airy light room. They absorb moisture from the air but will need an extra spray with water (preferably filtered or rain water) twice a week in temperate climates. During summer they may require spraying every day dependant on the temperature.
Plants are NOT included but can be purchased on request by messaging me before you place your order. There are also a small selection available to purchase from a third party in my shop. I buy many of my air plants from Brackenwood Plant and Garden centre so if you are local to Bristol, you may like to visit. They sell a good selection of air plants and more unusual varieties of houseplants.
