Leaf Platter Workshop

I am so excited to be offering you the chance to create with clay in the lap of luxury at Whatley Manor!

On Wednesday 13th May, I will guide you through the process of making a ceramic leaf platter or dish. We will start the day by foraging leaves in the Whatley Estate (or you can bring your own favourite leaves). I will then teach you how to hand-build with slabs of clay and form a beautiful artisan platter or dish, using the impression from a real leaf.

You will also receive tea and coffee on arrival and be treated to an exceptional 2 course lunch. Lunch will be served in Grey’s Brasserie, home to award winning Michelin star chef, Niall Keating.

“As soon as you arrive, Sonya’s warm welcoming manner makes you feel instantly at home. She was also very knowledgeable explaining not just how you do something, but why as well. What I liked most, is that even though we had a plan for the day, it could be completely adapted depending on how you took to each task. I would recommend the workshop to anyone from beginner to advanced. You will have a great day and come away with lots of pieces to take home. I look forward to going back to finish glazing them”.

Matthew Lodge

“I really enjoyed a pottery throwing session with Sonya Ceramic Art recently. I bought it for a Mothers Day gift for me and my mum. It was really interesting, and so therapeutic manipulating the clay…a really nice gift idea.”

Christine Marshal

“I had a lovely day with Sonya exploring pottery for the first time! It was wonderful to have the one to one tuition. Sonya was a fantastic teacher, she gave me lots of different methods and ideas of how to work with the clay so that I could find what worked best for me. I can’t believe what we managed to do just in the one day. A testament to some really patient and creative teaching from Sonya”.

Emma Beale

“Sonya gave the two of us an absolutely fantastic hour of learning to use the pottery wheel at her home studio, and her art work is beautiful. Highly recommended!”

Steve Mayne

“I had such a wonderful time spending the day with Sonya in her lovely studio. I’m an Art teacher and wanted to improve my skills and confidence in Ceramics. Having Sonya work with me 1:1 was brilliant and she was able to tailor the session to suit my previous experience with clay which was great. I loved it so much I’m thinking about getting my own wheel and kiln. Thanks Sonya!”

Jasmin Butler

“A BIG SHOUT OUT to Sonya Wilkins . I wanted a special present from my 11 year old son to his God Mother. This is what he chose to do. He’s had an amazing experience doing some pottery with Sonya Ceramic Art. I can’t recommend her enough”.

Eddy Lawton

“Sonya is an excellent teacher. I very much enjoyed learning in her studio one to one. It was my first time making ceramics on a wheel, which I found especially fun. I rediscovered the pleasure of making something by getting messy with my hands. A real treat”.

Camille Parke

“A lovely pottery lesson with Sonya. A really peaceful way to spend time with my seven year old son too.  Sonya was so patient and great with kids. I would highly recommended this for anyone who fancies doing something a bit different”.
